I found this awesome unicorn at Michael's Arts & Crafts store. It was $9.99 and I used a 40% off coupon found on their website.
I also picked up some Krylon Glitter blast spray, a wood plaque and a package of frame hooks.
So instead of going thru my mistakes, I'll give you the steps to make yours a success.
First off cut the unicorn in half, or where ever you want to cut it. Second thing DO NOT USE THE GLITTER BLAST! This was my 2nd time using it and both times were a bust. Luckily it peeled right off the unicorn, so I sprayed it with craft glue and used extra fine glitter and poured it all over.
Let it dry for 15 minutes and tap off the remaining glitter. This is only necessary if you missed any spots or want an extra coat. I suggest waiting a couple of hours before applying. (I did do 2 coats.)
After a drying time of 24 hours, I applied 4 coats of a clear gloss spray paint. I decided to do 4 coats, so it would be easier to wipe/dust off without having glitter come off it.
For the plaque I applied a frame hook and sprayed painted it to match my other frames. After it dried (per can instructions) I used E6000 glue to apply the unicorn to the plaque. I let it dry for a couple of days before I hung it.
*Update* It's been a couple of weeks and its still going strong.
